NextEra Energy, Inc. (NextEra Energy) and its family of companies are committed to protecting the personal information that we collect from new and existing customers, web site visitors, suppliers, and other third parties, including vendors and potential vendors. Your privacy is a top priority for NextEra Energy, and we make every reasonable effort to protect the information we hold about you. This Privacy Policy describes the personal information we collect, how we use and disclose the information, and how we protect it.

This Privacy Policy applies to NextEra Energy and certain of our subsidiary companies, including Florida Power & Light Company (FPL).  FPL, a subsidiary of NextEra, is a vertically integrated, rate-regulated electric utility in the state of Florida.  We will refer to these organizations, collectively, as “NextEra Energy,” “we,” “us” or “our” throughout this policy.

Information we collect and how we use it

NextEra Energy collects information to establish and provide services to our customers. Examples of the information we collect include:

  • Identifiers: For example:
    • Personally identifiable information (PII) like name, date of birth, address and government-issued ID numbers
    • Contact information like phone numbers and email addresses
    • Identifying information of third parties
  • Commercial Information:  For example, financial and banking information

For all customers and website visitors, we use information we collect for the following purposes:

Information Collected Automatically via Technology

Surveys and Questionnaires

On some occasions when visiting any of NextEra Energy’s websites or other digital properties, you may be asked to complete either an online survey or questionnaire. The answers provided are used to improve the services offered through our digital properties.

Children’s Privacy

NextEra Energy does not knowingly collect personal information from users under age 13 through its websites and other digital properties which are in no way directed at children under the age of 13.  If you are under the age of 13, please do not submit a request for information, inquiry, or any personal information (including, but not limited to, your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address or any screen name or username you may use) to us.  If we learn that information has been submitted, or that we have collected personal information, from a user under the age of 13, we will take immediate steps to delete such information.

Categories of sources of Personal Information we collect

We may collect your personal information from any of the following categories of sources:

  • You, for example, when you register with our Site, subscribe to online services, when you shop with us, or when you otherwise provide information directly to us.
  • Service providers, for example, analytics providers, IT, and system administration services.
  • Affiliated companies, for example, so that we can assist other companies in the NextEra Energy family of companies in providing you with products or services.

  • Surveillance/recording technologies installed by Company, for example, video surveillance in common areas of Company facilities, voicemail technologies, and audio recording technologies with consent to the extent required by law.
  • Government or administrative agencies, for example, law enforcement, public health officials, and other government authorities.
  • Acquired entity, if Company acquired another entity, Company might collect personal information from that entity.

We do not collect PII about you through our websites or other digital properties unless you voluntarily provide it.

Disclosure of personal information

In the normal course of business NextEra Energy discloses personal information to third parties. We do this in the following, limited circumstances:

  • Corporate Affiliates: Personal information is disclosed to our subsidiaries, affiliated companies who assist us in providing you with current and potentially future services, or for other permitted uses of personal information.
  • Service Providers:  Personal information is disclosed to service providers who assist us in providing you with current and potentially future services, or for other permitted uses of personal information (subject to confidentiality agreements or our instructions consistent with this Privacy Policy as appropriate).
  • Other Disclosures:  Personal information is disclosed to:

(a) satisfy applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request;
(b) enforce applicable Terms of Service, including investigation of potential violations thereof;
(c) detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; or
(d) protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of NextEra Energy, its customers or the public as required or permitted by law.

  • Government Agencies/Law Enforcement:  We may disclose personal information to the U.S. Department of Energy, North American Electric Reliability Corporation, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and their designees to participate in the protection of the security of critical infrastructure and key resources and ensuring information security. The information may be shared with federal local or international law enforcement authorities in accordance with applicable law both in the United States or the originating country. 
  • Corporate Transactions:  We may disclose and/or transfer personal information to a third party in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale (including any transfers made as part of insolvency or bankruptcy proceedings) involving NextEra Energy or its affiliated companies or as part of a corporate reorganization, stock or asset sale, or other change in corporate control.

We may also disclose to third parties certain pieces of aggregated, non–personal information, such as how many customers viewed a web page. Such information would not identify you individually.

Third party links on our website

While browsing NextEra Energy websites, you may encounter and choose to access websites or online services operated by companies or agencies that may not be associated with NextEra Energy. These websites may send their own cookies to you, log your IP address, and/or otherwise collect data or personal information about you and your online activities. NextEra Energy does not control and is not responsible for what outside entities do in connection with their websites or online services, or how they handle your personal information. Website "Do Not Track" requests

NextEra Energy websites do not respond to "Do Not Track" signals or other similar mechanisms. "Do Not Track" signals are used by some web browsers to attempt to limit tracking related to your visits to a website.

Protecting your personal information

We use industry-standard administrative, technical and physical safeguards and protection practices and controls to ensure the integrity of our systems and to protect your information from loss, misuse, alteration and destruction. Such protection measures include firewalls, Transit Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Socket Layers (SSL) to protect and encrypt transmissions. Please be advised, however, that no security system is infallible, and we cannot guarantee the information you provide will never be obtained by unauthorized persons.

We may contact you from time to time to provide you with useful information and updates regarding our services, and special offers; however, we do not and will not at any time request any of the following information via email or through any telephone call initiated by us:

  • your account user ID
  • your account password
  • your social security number
  • your credit card and/or bank information

How long we retain your personal information

We retain your personal information for the duration of our relationship, if any, with you. We also retain your personal information for 12 months after our last interaction with you. We will retain personal information longer as necessary to comply with legal, administrative, or procedural requirements, for example, a litigation hold.

A warning about social media

To provide both current and potential customers with more options for contacting NextEra Energy, we have established Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) accounts for many of our companies. As these are public forums, you should be aware that any personal information you choose to disclose through those platforms can be read, collected or used by others and that such disclosures are subject solely to the privacy policies and protections of those platforms.

NextEra Energy has no control over those forums and, thus, is not responsible for any personal information you may choose to disclose through them. You should also be aware that NextEra Energy will never disclose, or ask for you to disclose, your non-public, PII (such as your social security number, bank information, etc.) through these public forums.

NextEra Energy recommends that you not submit your non-public, PII to NextEra Energy through these avenues. If there is a need for such information, NextEra Energy will provide you alternative and secure communication methods.

We may change or update this privacy notice at any time. We will change the last updated date found at the top of this Privacy Policy when an update is made. We recommend that you visit this web page periodically to be kept informed regarding any changes. We also recommend that you visit our Terms of Use.

We may include a notification on our website's home pages to notify you of an update to this Privacy Policy.  If we materially change this Privacy Policy in a way that affects how we use or disclose your personal information, we will provide a prominent notice of such changes and the effective date of the changes before making them.
